Meena Alexander was born in India and brought up there and in Sudan. Birthplace with Buried Stones (TriQuarterly Books/ Northwestern University Press, 2013 ) is her seventh book of poetry. Her poems have been translated and set to music — “Impossible Grace,” the lyric base of the First Al Quds Music Award was performed in Jerusalem and the poem “Acqua Alta, ” was set to music by Jan Sandstrom for the Serikon Music Group’s climate change project in Sweden. She has received awards from the Guggenheim, Fulbright and Rockefeller Foundations.
