Atom Yarjanian (Siamanto) was one of over 200 Armenian intellectuals who were arrested on the eve of the start of the Armenian Genocide April 24, 1915 and later murdered. His poems were an important part of remembrance, commemoration, and resilience at a time when Armenians of the Ottoman Empire were targeted for destruction.
