Gaza Haiku

Rubble everywhere

Inside the soul, inside stone

Souls, their soulless weight.

I add fresh water,

The chrysanthemums last

Wish I poured for Gazans.

The names are many

Written on limbs, sung, called out

Allah knows them all.

A world forgets, re-

members olives, bones, homes, kiss-

es, endless kisses!

Grief, never ending…

Not rain but a phosphorous

Burning, without rain.

Cardamom biscuits,

Tea, these offered to the guest

If he’s Death, bless him.
