Mi Amor

Next to you I lie
adjusting my age
to the sea
          (that never stops)

to the eggs
          wrapped in a white napkin
            brought by Raul, this morning

to hermit crabs, scuttling
          for a claw up
           a larger place
           to rest stalky eyes
           safe from frigate gulls

                     to oleanders
along the path cobbled
they truly sicken me
their petals tacky
          and milky-scent each

day adjusts itself
shivers
into its own
light
          rising from the sea
(that never stops)

hang the hammock
between palms
and climb in with me

I’m speaking mi amor
          to you,
                 the pelicans overhead.
